Rodney Howard Browne shares a teaching on Perserverance

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.  Romans 5:1-5 NIV

Rodney Howard Browne teaches us that we have been justified through faith and we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Him we have gained access, by faith, into this grace in which we now stand and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Because of all that He has done for us, we can rejoice even in the midst of pressure, persecution, trouble and anguish. The word in verse 3 rendered “tribulations” in the KJV and “sufferings” in the NIV actually means “pressure” – literally or figuratively. The KJV translates this word in various scriptures as “afflicted/affliction, anguish, burdened, persecution, tribulation, and trouble.”

Rodney Howard Browne shows us that when people see the word “suffering” one of the first things they think of is sickness. There is a fallacy in religious circles that sickness and disease and calamities are good things and that they are good for us. The fallacy is that they are sent from God to teach us and to punish us. I wish they would make up their mind on which one it is! Teaching and punishing are opposites. One assumes that there is hope, the other that there is none. In reality, this opinion and all this “suffering” come straight from the gates of hell. You must be either brain-damaged or religiously brainwashed to think that bad things are good. Good is good and bad is bad. We need to wake up and realize that bad gifts are bad – not good – and that they do not come from God.

We believe that God is in control and He can do anything He wants to, but He has made it very plain, in His word, that He does not give us bad gifts and that He has given us the authority in the earth. He allows what we allow. He does not override or violate the choices we make.

We live in this earth full of sin and death – stuff happens to us – we encounter bad people and bad situations. People like to use Paul as an example of someone who endured sickness for God’s glory. In 2 Corinthians 11:23-28 Paul mentions all his problems. He does not mention sickness or disease one time. The suffering he endured, the thorn in his side (mentioned in 2 Cor 12:7) was sent from the devil not God. It consisted of persecution, beatings, imprisonments, shipwrecks, hunger, cold, heat, lack and betrayals among other things, and yet God was with him and He was on his side and He brought him out every time. We don’t have control over the external influences that come to try to destroy us, but we can choose how we deal with them – we can choose life and blessing (Deut 30:19).

If hard things alone made you a better person then every body would be in a great place in their life and attitude, but we know that this is not the case. Many times, the hard things people have gone through have made them angry, bitter and resentful toward God and others. Many times, even people who claim that God made them suffer for their own good are actually angry with Him underneath their martyr façade. They have a victim mentality – which is very counter-productive.

We all go through hard things. This is not necessarily the end of your world. The hard things you go through can – in the end – teach you perseverance. You can learn and grow – and be better off – or you can whine and give up and end up full of bitterness and resentments. The hard things you go through don’t make you a better person – you (with God’s help) make yourself a better person, even in the middle of the hard things, by your own choices. Choose to endure, choose to win and not give up, and choose to have a positive attitude. Jesus is your only example – follow Him.

So how do you come through hard things – with a good attitude – having learned perseverance?

  1. Know that God is on your side – pull in closer to Him – submit to Him in all things.
  2. Know that the devil is your problem – resist him at all times.
  3. Realize that you have the choice.
  4. Maintain a humble, teachable spirit.
  5. Find out what God’s word says about your situation.
  6. Do exactly what it says.

The Lord makes the way of escape – He is the way out of every situation (1 Corinthians 10:13).

JESUS – OUR PEACE

Posted by: Rodney Howard Browne | Comments (1)

Isaiah 9:6-7 (NKJ)6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.7 Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.Luke 2:13-14 (NKJ) 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”Jesus is our peace. Hundreds of years before Jesus’ birth, the Holy Spirit spoke through the prophets to declare that He would be the source of our peace. The only true peace you can have is peace with God. Isaiah 48:22 (NKJ)22 “There is no peace,” says the LORD, “for the wicked.”There is no peace for those who do not know or fear God. The devil makes all kinds of promises wealth and fame etc but the one thing he can never give is peace. Peace comes only from the presence of God.

Isaiah 53:5 (NKJ)5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.Jesus paid the price on the cross and with His blood in order for us to be reconciled to God and to have His peace. Ephesians 2:13-18 (NKJ)13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation,15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace,16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.17 And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near.18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.

It doesn’t matter what storm rages around you Jesus has given you His peace. As long as you have peace with the Father, you have peace in any storm. On the other hand, you may have everything going your way and yet, if you have no relationship with God, you will never know true peace. Because we are justified by faith and made righteous by the blood of Jesus, we have perfect peace with the Father.

Romans 5:1-2 (NKJ)1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

GOD’S WORD IS LIFE

Posted by: Rodney Howard Browne | Comments (0)

Foundation scripture: Proverbs 3:1-2 (NKJ)
1My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands; 2For length of days and long life and peace they will add to you.

Proverbs 4:20-23 (NKJ)
20My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; 22For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. 23Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.

In God’s word we find life. Life springs from God. God is life. There is no death in Him. Every action of God produces life. Every word of God produces life. What is life? Life is every good thing. Life is blessings, life is abundance. Life is everything you could find in God’s presence. Life is healing and wholeness for your spirit, soul and body.

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (NKJ)
19?I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; 20?that you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”

Life is a choice we make. We choose to have life and to walk in life. We choose life by choosing God, choosing His word above all other words, choosing His ways before all other ways, choosing His voice above all other voices.

Proverbs 3:13 & 18 (NKJ)
13Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding;

18She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, and happy are all who retain her.

God’s wisdom is a tree of life to us. We allow God to plant His tree in us and it produces the fruit of His abundant life in and through us.

Proverbs 11:30 (NKJ)
30The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.

We become a tree of life to others. Because of the life and nature of God on the inside of us – everywhere we go, we bring life and blessing to others. Everywhere we go, people get saved, healed, delivered and set free – because God’s life lives on the inside of us and flows out of us. We cannot contain it.

Proverbs 21:21 (NKJ)
21He who follows righteousness and mercy finds life, righteousness and honor.

Proverbs 22:4 (NKJ)
4By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches and honor and life.

When we follow after God earnestly. When we desire Him more than anything else this world has to offer. When we love Him, honor Him, and humble our hearts before Him, He will fill us with His life and His blessing and His life and blessing will be all that we experience. Death and cursing will depart from us as we walk in the presence of the life of God.
